Border Force wins Global Customs Innovation Award for ScanApp — a solution Zaizi helped build
Zaizi’s proud to announce that ScanApp, the innovative solution we helped build with Border Force, has won a Global Customs Innovation Award.
ScanApp won first place in ‘Track #2 — Ideas for Innovations at Customs‘ during the PEN-CP (the Pan-European Network of Customs Practitioners) annual awards. The awards highlight cutting-edge solutions and forward-thinking innovations that address the evolving challenges customs administrations worldwide face.
The Border Force project took top spot, ahead of Dubai Customs’ “Mega Scanner” project and Argentine Customs Administration’s AI fishery products tool.
Border Force officials were delighted to receive the award and acknowledged the work of Zaizi and other partners in the project’s success.
Zaizi teamed up with Border Force and other partners to develop ScanApp, which is helping modernise freight scanning operations at UK ports.
The achievement highlights Zaizi’s desire to develop transformative solutions that address complex operational needs and strengthen critical border security infrastructure.
“We’re incredibly proud to have partnered with Border Force on ScanApp — and this innovation award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
“ScanApp will enable Border Force to improve its operational efficiency and enhance national security. For Zaizi, this win validates our expertise in developing game-changing solutions for mission-critical projects and underscores our dedication in working with our government partners to keep the country safe.”

Case study: Creating safe, secure and frictionless digital borders — Border Force
“Pushing the boundaries of innovation”
PEN-CP is a network of expert customs practitioners. It invited Customs Administrations worldwide to share information on innovations they developed or deployed to meet various customs challenges. First launched in 2019, winners of previous Innovation Awards include Dutch and Dubai Customs.
This year’s competition drew submissions from over sixteen innovation candidates. A panel of customs officers representing nine agencies selected the winners.
“The winning entries reflect a strong commitment to enhancing Customs operations and advancing technological solutions,” said the PEN-CP press release.
“Heartfelt congratulations to all the GCIA-2024 winners! Your exceptional creativity and dedication are driving transformative advancements in Customs operations. By pushing the boundaries of innovation, you are shaping a more efficient, secure, and forward-thinking global Customs landscape.” it added.
ScanApp digitises and automates scanning processes and eliminates paper-based methods. It enables officers to access and share real-time scan data remotely across ports, and laid the groundwork for AI enhancements.
It also gives senior stakeholders tools to monitor throughput and efficiency, facilitating data-driven reporting. The solution received positive feedback from frontline officers for its user-centred design and integration with existing Home Office systems.
