Wrap-up: Our impact on digital government services in 2023
This year, our teams have undertaken a vast portfolio of work for government organisations across the agile phases — discovery, alpha, beta, and live.
Our multidisciplinary digital teams – from user-centred design specialists to developers – have untangled tough problems to design, build and sustain services that help government organisations achieve their goals.
The breadth of our work means we’ve helped our partners understanding their problems and user pain points, optimise platforms from both technical and design/content perspectives, and build sophisticated systems using the latest tech.
By understanding user needs and collaborating closely with our partners to develop and improve solutions, our work makes a positive impact. After all, our mission is to make the UK the best and safest place to live and work.
Here’s just a selection of the work we’ve done this year to help achieve that.
Improving the lives of citizens
Delivering policy outcomes. For DHULC, we worked on several projects to deliver successful policy outcomes through user-centred design capability, Agile working methods and technical support.
For example, we’ve assisted with a series of housing and building-related work. They have improved conditions for renters, landlords, park home residents, and building safety.
Unlocking data insights: We’ve also helped them with several projects to unlock the potential of their data and improve processes. Guided by user-centred design methodologies, we’re co-creating intuitive data visualisations and dashboards, which enable new ways of working.
Empowering local councils and citizens: Zaizi also joined forces with local councils and the Local Digital Fund to modernise important services, such as a digital taxi licence service. We also assisted the Office for Local Government to build a digital tool that allows citizens to analyse the performance of local councils.
Homes for Ukraine: A prime example of our impact was supporting the hugely successful Homes for Ukraine scheme. The scheme has facilitated the safe passage of some 200,000 Ukrainian refugees into the United Kingdom.
Making the UK a safer place
Enhancing digital security: For Home Office and Border Force, our teams are building and designing various digital services to help staff operate more effectively and keep the country safe. This includes facilitating secure data storage and simplified sharing capabilities.
Modernising legacy systems: On one project, the Home Office’s legacy system was replaced with a more efficient and secure digital product that was easier for frontline staff.
Access to justice: With the National Archives, we’ve assisted in making their court judgments publicly available online, enabling citizens to readily access court and tribunal decisions digitally.
Aiding rehabilitation: Work with the MOJ involved a digital service that assisted in their goal of rehabilitating offenders whilst improving public protection.
Keeping the UK safe: Finally, we’re engaged with several other government partners on security-related products and services that are helping make the UK the best and safest place to live and work. The work we’ve done includes overhauling websites, improving comms and creating services that increase engagement with end users.
